Why choose educational trips to Morocco?
Morocco is a short flight from much of Europe, yet it feels like another world, which makes it a powerful destination for learning outside the classroom. Within a single week, students can walk through a Roman city, a medieval medina, a Berber mountain village and the Sahara dunes, while hearing Arabic, Amazigh, French and Spanish in daily use.
Educational travel here connects naturally with the curriculum:
| Subject | Where to learn in Morocco |
|---|---|
| History and classics | Volubilis Roman ruins (UNESCO), the imperial cities of Fes and Meknes |
| Geography and environment | High Atlas, Dadès and Todra Gorges, oases, Erg Chebbi dunes, water management in the desert |
| Languages | Arabic and French conversation sessions, market tasks, family dinners |
| Architecture and art | Medersas, kasbahs, Aït Benhaddou (UNESCO), zellige and calligraphy workshops |
| Religion and society | Hassan II Mosque, medina life, Amazigh heritage |
Sample student tour itineraries in Morocco
Programmes are built from the routes we run as private tours, then adapted to the group's age, budget and learning objectives:
- 3 days: the 3 day desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga, ideal as an add-on to a city-based study week in Marrakech.
- 4 days: the 4 day desert tour from Marrakech to Fes, crossing the country one way via the Sahara.
- 5 days: the 5 day tour from Casablanca to Fes via the Sahara, convenient for groups flying into Casablanca.
- 7 days and more: the 7 day Morocco itinerary from Casablanca adds the imperial cities and more time for workshops.
A typical 5 day programme looks like this: day 1 in the Marrakech medina with workshops; day 2 over the Atlas to Aït Benhaddou and the Dadès Valley; day 3 to the Todra Gorge and Merzouga with a camel trek and desert camp; day 4 through the Ziz Valley and the Middle Atlas to Fes; day 5 in the Fes medina before departure.
What school trips to Morocco include
- Private transport: minibuses or coaches with a driver-guide for the whole itinerary, with no mixing with other travellers.
- Accommodation: clean, well-located riads and hotels in the comfort category with breakfast; half board on request.
- Desert night: a camp night in the Erg Chebbi dunes with camel trek, dinner and breakfast. Camel rides depend on camel availability that day; otherwise the group reaches camp by 4x4 and rides the next morning.
- Airport transfers on arrival and departure.
- Educational visits and workshops listed in the agreed programme.
International flights are not included. Teachers receive a detailed day-by-day itinerary, risk information for their own assessment and a single contact person throughout the trip.
Student travel in Morocco: safety and planning for group leaders
Morocco is an established destination for school travel. Students travel in private vehicles with known drivers, stay in vetted accommodation and never have to arrange transport themselves. We share safety notes and links to official travel advice before booking, and you can read our general guide on whether Morocco is safe to visit.
- Best time: spring and autumn suit most school calendars and avoid the summer heat in the desert. Winter trips work well with warm clothing for cold desert nights.
- Ramadan: check the dates for your year; travel is fine, but students should be discreet about eating in public during the day.
- Dress code: brief students on modest clothing covering shoulders and knees.
- Dietary needs: vegetarian, allergy and other requirements can be planned in advance.
- Languages: driver-guides work in English, French, Spanish and Italian; Spanish and Italian depend on availability.
How to request a costed student programme
Send us a short brief by email, WhatsApp or the form: travel dates, number of students and leaders, age range, budget per student, learning objectives and any dietary or accessibility needs. We reply with a day-by-day plan, the accommodation list, a fixed per-student price and a payment schedule. Changes are easy until the programme is confirmed.
The clearer the learning objectives, the better the programme. A geography department might want time at the oases and in the gorges, while an Arabic class may prefer longer medina stays with market tasks and conversation sessions.
Not a school? Families, clubs and companies can travel the same way on our private group tours in Morocco.
